To reach the top of Vallemaggia past lakes, rivers and waterfalls

THE PERFECT MOMENT
  • 28 August – 12.00
  • 15°
  • 2,310 m
  • Energic

To overcome the grandeur of nature is the biggest challenge for true outdoor sports enthusiasts. For cyclists the slopes must always be steeper and the end point higher each time.

The immense satisfaction you feel when you reach the top is incredible. Like a true hero you have overcome the challenge. You utter a wild liberating cry and the immense panorama absorbs its power. Congratulations, it was a real feat and you did it!

In just 60 kilometres you go from the Mediterranean climate of the Ascona lakefront to the snows of Naret lake, from 200 to 2,310 metres of altitude. At the top of the Sambuco valley, the spectacle of the dams will leave you speechless. The alpine scenery makes you realize just how small man is in the presence of nature.

Along the route, in the unspoiled Vallemaggia, you will find uncontaminated landscapes and beautiful waterfalls.

After passing through the rustic cottages of Fusio, the last inhabited village, you can still cycle up to the very end of the valley, where few people go. And you do all this on a quiet paved road and probably without meeting almost any cars. Instead, the biggest obstacle could be a herd of goats that have decided to walk the same way.

Once you have finished this great feat, you can at last let your wheels go in an exciting descent and before you reach the plains, take a dip in the Maggia river to wash away the fatigue.
