Paolo Basso - From the great wine capitals to the hills of Ticino.

There are paths that take you far away… and then lead you to make a conscious choice where to put down roots. After a career dedicated to tasting and selecting the world’s finest wines, crowned by the titles of Best Sommelier of Europe (2010) and Best Sommelier of the World (2013), I chose to give a new form to everything I had learned.

Together with my wife Helene, we decided to settle in a place that could represent a meeting point between our origins and our future: Ticino. 

Here, a limited production was born, reflecting a vision shaped through years of dialogue with excellence. Six wines that speak of place, identity, precision and finesse:

• Fiore di Chiara - a fresh, immediate and versatile white
• Bianco di Chiara - a white Merlot, elegant, distinguished and structured
• Le Rosé - a fine rosé with beautiful depth and an almost red-wine character
• Bouquet di Chiara - a traditional, fragrant and versatile Merlot
• Rosso di Chiara - our flagship wine, intense and persistent
• Samhàin - a Merlot from old vines, aged in celler for four years

The wines are ageing in the natural cellars of Mendrisio, carved into the rock beneath Monte Generoso and the ancient Hermitage of St. Nicholas, a unique environment where temperature and humidity remain naturally constant.

In our private Grotto (tavern), by reservation, we welcome small groups (4-10 people) for an authentic experience. Not a simple visit, but a moment to taste our wines at a relaxed pace, compare styles and deepen one’s own perception, guided by Paolo, for whom sensitivity to taste has become a vocation.
