Grotto San Michele

Since 2011, the Scuola Specializzata Superiore Alberghiera e del Turismo (SSSAT) in Bellinzona has been managing the catering and banqueting services at Castelgrande.

The aim is to provide a dedicated space for practical activities and learning experiences for students attending the hospitality programme. Students are given the opportunity to gain experience outside the school environment while working in direct contact with guests.

Grotto San Michele features a charming outdoor terrace and a distinctive vaulted dining room, set among the walls and vineyards of Castelgrande, with panoramic views over Bellinzona.

The culinary offer highlights local traditions and typical Ticinese dishes, accompanied by friendly and personalised service.

Grotto San Michele is mentioned by several gastronomic guides, including Gault&Millau (15 points), Michelin, Guide Bleu (7/10), Falstaff (86/100, up to 30 guests) and Swisswine.

The menu includes dishes prepared with ingredients certified with the TICINO regio.garantie label, as well as specialities inspired by medieval cuisine based on the recipes of Maestro Martino.

Weekly themed lunch menus are also available from Tuesday to Friday, designed for those with a short lunch break.

From 10.30 to 24.00, Sunday lunch only, Monday closed.

This cultural/tourist point of interest took part in the digital data mapping project on accessibility by Pro Infirmis. The project was carried out with the collaboration and support of Ticino Turismo, the four regional tourist organisations and the Department of Education, Culture and Sport.
