Peaks, glaciers, modern architecture, lakes and lunar landscapes. Between the Nufenen Pass and the Val Formazza, little reminds us of Ticino as it is commonly imagined. Despite this, or perhaps because of it, the surroundings of the Corno Gries hut are a spectacular spot in the southern canton.
The hut's architecture is reminiscent of a control tower, from which the flat hut surroundings with their many hollows, depressions, marmots, lakes and small rock bars are monitored. Not far away, at the Cornopass, you enter the world of peaks, glaciers and reservoirs. Everything here was and is shaped by ice: wide valleys, flashing ice surfaces and, in between, the dark blue glowing lake in the barren high mountain landscape.
This hut is particularly suitable for excursions and ski-touring until late in the season, thanks to the considerable snow cover that falls in this region. Lounge and 46 sleeping places with duvets.
From the Corno Gries you can admire a wonderful panorama of the surrounding mountains, especially when they are freshly covered in snow. The Gries glacier, which falls into the lake of the same name, also catches the hiker's eye for its peculiarity.
