Autumn festival & cheese market

Bellinzona's city center will host numerous stalls displaying alpine cheeses from Ticino and Mesolcina, the fruit of the mountain herdsmen's labors carried out during the summer months on the various mountain pastures. Given the season, this event is one of the first after the alpine cheeses have been unloaded. Most of the cheeses were unloaded in September, but some continued until early October, just before the event. One—or perhaps the—largest market offering alpine cheeses, various forms of both cow's and goat's milk, as well as mixed cow/goat cheeses, are on display.

  • Ticino Wines Some of the area's major wine producers will offer their products to the public for tasting. By purchasing the "wine tasting" card, you will receive a characteristic glass made by a local artist, where you can taste the wines.

  • Ticino Alpine Cheeses Almost all the Alpine farmers are present at this event, as it is one of the first autumn events, and they can offer their cheeses produced on the recently unloaded mountain pastures: cow's milk, goat's milk, mixed cheeses, and other mountain specialties.

  • Sweets and Chocolate Some stalls will offer pastries and chocolate; an opportunity for those with a sweet tooth to taste characteristic products made by Ticino artisans.

  • Bread Various types of bread can be tasted and also admired in their unique shapes.

  • Honey, Chestnuts Other typical autumn products will be presented at the stalls in the square.

For Alpine cheeses and bread, there will be a competition, where a jury of professionals will select the best product of the season. The event will feature a large children's amusement park (with inflatables, face painting, etc.) and theater and storytelling sessions for the little ones. Adults will enjoy musical entertainment and the opportunity to sample one of the festival's menus at local restaurants.
