Visit to the Faido Sawmill and the Piumogna Waterfall

Discover the Piumogna waterfall and the Faido patrician sawmill (duration approx. 2 hours).

At 10.20-10.40 a.m. we'll be waiting for you at Faido station on the PostBus stop side. Here we will give you a brief introduction to Faido and the station area during the Belle Epoque. You will then take a 20-minute walk (1 km) to the sparkling Piumogna waterfall and the Faido patrician sawmill.

In the sawmill, enter the classroom dedicated to the forest to watch the documentary that illustrates the history of the Patriziato and the sawmill. At the end of the visit you can observe the exhibition dedicated to mushrooms and insects. After 30 minutes you can go up to the upper floor where you will find the historical horizontal saw, the only one of its kind still in operation in Switzerland, which arrived from Lipzia back in 1896 and remained in operation until the mid-1970s to produce the beams and planks needed to build houses and stables.

At the end, there is the possibility to walk freely along the 2 km long didactic path with a difference in height of 100 metres around the Piumogna waterfall or the 1 km long animal path along the Ticino river.

Adjacent to the waterfall you can find areas with tables, grills and a playground organised by Castelletto ProFaido.

Duration: approx. 2 hours

The visit is suitable for children from 6 years of age.

The guided tour with a minimum of 8 people (max. 14) is held in Italian and German. For this reason, we ask the customer booking to indicate the desired language in order to reserve the guide. We will inform you in time if the tour will take place.
