The old town of Ascona

This itinerary includes a visit to the parish church and the old town center, where pedestrian alleyways alternate with historical buildings displaying adorned doorways, balconies, and frescoes. The distinctive and elegant historical center also features boutiques, restaurants, and art galleries.

Start at the Church of Santi Pietro e Paolo, where you can admire the works of painter Giovanni Serodine. Don't miss the facade of Casa Serodine on the small square in front of the church. From here, proceed toward the lake and turn left onto the lakefront promenade. Just before Hotel Castello, turn left again. At the end of Vicolo dei Ghiriglioni, make a left onto Via delle Cappelle and continue until the oratory of Santi Fabiano e Sebastiano, now a parish museum. Opposite the oratory is the tree-lined alley that leads to Collegio Papio and its church, Chiesa di Santa Maria della Misericordia. Exiting onto Via Collegio, which runs parallel to the wall surrounding the complex, you will find yourself in the heart of the historical center. Turn right onto Carrà dei Nasi and then left onto Via Borgo. Continue until you reach the Municipal Museum of Modern Art, and then make a left onto Contrada Maggiore, from where you will return to the small piazza where you started.
