Nature and Artifice
This two-day gouache painting workshop with artist Marco Scorti (1987) explores the theme of perception: how we observe a place and translate it into an image. Through drawing exercises and on-site sketching, participants will analyze architectural elements – both traditional and contemporary – together with vegetation, traces of human use, and transformations of the landscape. In the second part of the workshop, participants will work with gouache on canvas, producing a final piece that highlights contrasts, framing, and focal points. The workshop revolves around a central question: where does beauty reside – in the subject, in the medium, or in the gaze we choose to construct? The workshop aims to foster a more conscious and critical way of looking at the territory – moving beyond the classic “postcard view” of Collina d’Oro and Ticino – and to understand how painting can reveal what often goes unnoticed.
Given its technical focus, the course is intended for participants with basic drawing skills or students aged 13 and above.
