Esplorazioni speleologiche di Sergio Veri

Caves and cavities in the Muggio Valley and the Generoso area.

In his speleological surveys, Sergio Veri has collected thousands of images and discovered, traversed, and explored hundreds of caves and natural cavities in Ticino and abroad. This exhibition presents a selection of photographs captured in the area of Monte Generoso and the Muggio Valley, where approximately 18 km of caves have been traversed and topographed to date.

These caves are part of a vast, still little-known and densely interconnected underground system. The speleologists' surveys and subsequent investigations have revealed exceptional archaeological and naturalistic finds, as well as subtle nuances and traces of subtle history that question and arouse curiosity and emotion. Moreover, the depths have been a source of artistic, scientific, and spiritual inspiration for thousands of years.

At the current stage of speleological exploration in the karst area of Monte Generoso, a total of 114 caves (124 entrances) have been identified, with a density of 2.3 caves/km2. The total length is approximately 18 km, of which approximately 16 km are surveyed.
