Carnevale Tesserete Or Penagin

Or Penagin is a carnival in the Ambrosian rite that takes place in Tesserete, in Canton Ticino. The term means 'he who uses the churn' and therefore makes butter. The king of the carnival is 'His Majesty Or Penagin', dressed as a peasant, accompanied by the 'Prime Minister Porta Penagia' in a dinner jacket and top hat.

The centuries-old event - the first edition dates back to 1900 - takes place over three days, according to a traditional programme that ensures entertainment for all age groups. Particular highlights are the popular risotto and the procession on Shrove Saturday, which ends with the 'assault on the cuccagna pole'.

The 2024 carnival will be held as per the programme available on the
website and on the social pages Facebook and Instagram.
