The new centre away from the centre.
After more than 45 years, the theatre whose name is undoubtedly linked to the Dimitri family and whose history is deeply rooted in the clown and mime art is coming to life in a whole new perspective.
Located in the beautiful Swiss countryside, Teatro Dimitri aims to become a center away from the center, by exploring the rich artistic potential of the area, as well as the natural surroundings. The mission, designed by the director Kami Wihlemina Manns, is to turn Teatro Dimitri into the most dynamic cultural center outside the great cultural centers in Switzerland, keeping the best of the two worlds: a top-class artistic program – dynamic, vibrant, highly-qualitative – that the public can enjoy in the beautiful Swiss nature.
A series of top-level events, ranging from live concerts, to contemporary theatre and dance performances, all by international artists as well as family and children’s performances are included in this year’s program. Festivals tailored to the taste of a wide range of audiences: the Borderline festival, designed to trigger curiosity and provoke the senses, the Shakespeare Festival, an event for a public of all ages and the first edition of the festival in the theater’s Teatro Piccolo stage, which will launch a show case for young artists (dancers/choreographers , actors/ writers).
The program will be completed by the widely appreciated clown performances featuring the Dimitri family and in collaboration with the Academia Teatro Dimitri, one of the most renowned performing arts schools in Switzerland.
More than a place for high-quality performing arts, Teatro Dimitri aims to be a space for great and inspiring meetings, a place for shared experiences, for interesting talks and for time spent in the middle of nature. All these enjoyed in three indoor stages, an outdoor space in the park, a restaurant restored and managed by the famous Bindella family and a shop.
Top artists performing within touching distance, in the middle of the beautiful mountain site of Verscio, surrounded by friends and like-minded people – this is the challenge that Teatro Dimitri launches for its audiences and this is what we hope to bring you everyday from now on.
