Collezione Giancarlo e Danna Olgiati is an exhibition space that hosts the Collezione Giancarlo e Danna Olgiati of contemporary art, loaned to the city of Lugano in 2012. Situated in the basement of the Central Park building opposite the LAC, the space was donated to the city by Eligio Boni, Erica Boni, Giuseppina Filippini, Immobiliare Park Lugano SA Eligio Boni, Erica Boni, Giuseppina Filippini and Immobiliare Park Lugano SA and restructured by the architect Ivano Gianola, thanks to the support of the Fondazione Caccia.
Like a Schaulager, Collezione Giancarlo e Danna Olgiati opens to the public periodically, in spring and autumn, to display exhibitions from the Collection as well as temporary exhibitions.
The Collection was created in the early 1960s when the young lawyer Giancarlo Olgiati started his adventure in the world of contemporary art. In 1985 he was joined by his wife, Danna, an Italian gallery owner specialised in the Futurist movement. The Collection comprises at the moment more than 500 art works: paintings, sculptures, drawings, photos, installations and videos, chiefly large format works which, by their nature, need to be organised in museum type halls, that explore international arts from the beginning of the 20th century up to today, focusing particularly on Italian and French art and on crucial moments such as Futurism, Spazialismo, Nouveau Réalisme and Arte Povera.
