Swiss customs museum

In front of Gandria, on the lake shore and only accessible by boat, is the Customs Museum. It has been located since 1935 in the old border guard barracks at Cantine di Gandria. The museum was converted into an interactive exhibition in 1994.

In the garden there are old border stones and customs signs from all over Switzerland. On the ground floor there are several rooms containing various materials on the history of customs in Ticino from 1850 to 1930. On display are regulations and manuscripts, wooden and tin measuring tools, as well as scales, stamps and plumb bobs. The entire furniture is original: chairs, tables, desks, cupboards containing old and recent uniforms.

The upper floors house special exhibitions, dedicated to stories and collections of documents and aids related to smuggling in the past and present.
