Cableway Airolo-Pesciüm - Summer
At the gates of the Swiss south, just where people exit the Gotthard tunnels by car or train, there is one of the most underestimated alpine recreation and sports areas of Switzerland. Airolo-Pesciüm is a sports paradise with panoramic views on to San Gottardo, Bedretto Valley and the upper Leventina. In summer Pesciüm is the gateway to hike and bike in various directions for example all the way to Valle Maggia.
In 60 minutes from Lugano, professional and amateur sportsmen and women, trekking enthusiasts or simply mountain lovers will find everything they are looking for, in a single station.
Pesciüm is a large-scale panoramic terrace that towers above the village of Airolo. It is one of the most appreciated touristic attractions in the Leventina Valley and easily accessible with the daily running modern cable car infrastructure that brings visitors up to Sasso della Boggia on 2065meters above sea level. During summer months various excursionists choose this mountain to discover the alpine nature of the upper Ticino. Locals know that around Pesciüm one finds a lot of wild tasty blueberries and chances are high to spot marmots. The recently inaugurated Pesciüm viewpoint offers you a spectacular view of the surrounding mountains.
The trails lead out in a variety of directions: towards the Tremorgio lake above Rodi, to the Cristallina hut and and the Valle Bedretto, or towards the Vallemaggia.
Alto Tremorgio Trail
A world to discover.
Pesciüm is the ideal starting point for numerous hikes through alpine landscapes. Discover the shady Alto Tremorgio Trail with its varied vegetation, along which you will meet the Ravina Alp and the village of Giovett, before arriving at the magnificent Tremorgio Lake.
Itinerary: ascent by cable car to Pesciüm; return by cable car to Lago Tremorgio - Rodi-Fiesso and PostBus, duration approx. 5 hours, demanding excursion for trained hikers.
The Alpi Bedretto road
A journey through nature and alpine pastures on foot or by mountain bike
Take the "Strada degli Alpi" of the Bedretto Valley to discover an incredibly fascinating region directly opposite the magnificent Gotthard massif. Immerse yourself in its wild nature, made up of bright colours, relaxing silences and mountain pastures.
Itinerary: ascent by cable car to Pesciüm; return from Ronco Bedretto by PostBus or mountain bike, duration approx. 4 hours with a difference in altitude of 200 m.

An itinerary rich in unique and unforgettable alpine landscapes and views that is suitable for those who prefer fun descents with a low degree of difficulty. Bikers will be entertained by breathtaking views, pine forests, pastures and exciting ridges.
Itinerary: Airolo-Sasso della Boggia cable car ride, descents with a reduced degree of difficulty, length of the trail: 21 km, technical and physical difficulty: medium
Refreshments can be had from the Pesciüm Restaurant, with seating for 80 indoors, 50 on the terrace, typical local dishes, a small recreation area for children and, upon request, company lunches and dinners, weddings, and a small conference room.
Thanks to its importance in the history of Swiss traffic routes, Airolo has been included in the federal inventory of protected Swiss settlements. Close to the railway station, there is a monument erected to commemorate the numerous workers who have contributed to the construction of the Gotthard tunnel.

The Airolo-Pesciüm and nearby Val Bedretto ski areas are well-known to enthusiasts of skiing and ski mountaineering and are among the safest regions in Switzerland for winter sports. Buses are available to take visitors from the railway station to the cablecar.
