Hiking holidays: Sentiero Verzasca & Centovalli

The Verzascatal valley is known as idyllic - and so is the trail, particularly the first section. It then leads past abandoned alps, a sign that life here was not always so idyllic. Particularly impressive: the mountain village of Corippo.
There’s no question about it: it’s well worth hiking through the Val Verzasca. It’s best to stay over night in Sonogno and savour morning peace. The crystal-clear emerald-green water, smoothly polished cliffs warmed by the sun, the scent of shrubs, risotto from the grotti by the wayside... the hike through the valley heightens all your senses. One optical highlight is undoubtedly the 17th-century Ponte dei Salti bridge spanning the Verzasca at Lavertezzo in two filigree stone arches.

Itinerary:

Day 1: Individual arrival in Sonogno | Sonogno–Lavertezzo

Sonogno and Lavertezzo with its stone arched bridge are both worth visiting. The countryside between is also delightful: you hike through an area of untouched and stony Ticino mountain landscape and are certain to stop at a typical grotto.

Details: distance ca. 14 km, climb 265 m, descent 650 m, duration: 4 h

Day 2: Odro Circuit
Bus ride to Vogorno. A mountain walk from Vogorno up to Bardüghè via Odro, with a difference in altitude of 1,180m. Panoramic route over the artificial lake and Lake Maggiore.

Details: distance ca. 10 km, climb 1'145 m, descent 1'145 m, duration: 5.5 h

Day 3: Lavertezzo – Locarno
The section of the trail between Corippo (under conservation order) and Mergoscia is particularly impressive. Hiking along the mountain trail, you see evidence of land use indicating the farmers’ struggle for survival a century ago.

Details: distance ca. 20 km, climb 1'154 m, descent 1'490 m, duration: ca. 7 h

Day 4: Via del Mercato | Departure
Train way from Locarno to Camedo. Journey through the famous Centovalli at the exploration of the trail "sentiero del mercato". An itinerary rich in history awaits you. Arrival at Intragna and departure.
