Science Up Close: Aquatic mushroom
About the event
This event focuses on aquatic fungi in alpine environments and their importance for the health of mountain ecosystems. It explores their role in the decomposition of organic matter, their contribution to the biological balance of streams, and their place within aquatic food webs.
Programme focus
Held within the MoSTFun research project, the day offers direct contact with scientific fieldwork. Participants are accompanied by researchers from the SUPSI Institute of Microbiology and are introduced to sampling methods used for ice, alpine pools and mountain streams.
The collected material is then observed under the microscope, offering a closer look at these little-known organisms and a better understanding of their ecological role in high-altitude habitats.
Audience
The event is intended for people interested in mountains, natural processes and scientific research. It combines scientific communication with practical observation and opens a window onto a field that is still largely unexplored.
