WHAT MAD PURSUIT - Aglaia Konrad, Armin Linke, Bas Princen

Conceived specifically for the spaces of the Teatro dell'architettura Mendrisio and open to the public, the exhibition 'WHAT MAD PURSUIT. Aglaia Konrad, Armin Linke, Bas Princen' is an unprecedented project that brings together the photographic works of three protagonists of the international art scene who work with photography through different modes and approaches: Aglaia Konrad (Salzburg, 1960), Armin Linke (Milan, 1966) and Bas Princen (Zeeland,1975).

Bringing together around 50 works, created by the authors in different places and at different times with equally heterogeneous purposes, the exhibition explores the intersections between photography and architecture, represented space and exhibition space.

The exhibition questions the documentary function of photography, understood here as a device that simultaneously records and transforms reality, and at the same time contradicts its conception as a two-dimensional image by exploring its materiality, body and presence.

In the artistic practices of the three authors, the internal space of the frame and the external space become the object of study but also of radical re-vision through the mediation of photography. Each work or cycle of works in fact aims to activate new readings of subjects already subjected to processes of representation and interpretation, introducing other layers of meaning that intersect with the previous ones. Instead of immortalising (once and forever), photography here triggers a chain reaction of at least theoretically endless re-signification. Photography reignites and reboots. It is a matter of intersections, interactions, overlaps, reactions, interferences.
