A Sunday as a Paleontologist

The UNESCO World Heritage properties in Switzerland open their doors and invite you to enter the world of our Heritage with unique experiences! Do you want to learn more about World Heritage in Switzerland? Follow the trail of our Heritage on the weekend of 14 and 15 June 2025! The World Heritage Days offer a unique insight into the diverse natural and cultural treasures of Switzerland and allow you to admire views that are otherwise often denied to visitors.

The Monte San Giorgio Fossil Museum invites you to an exciting adventure for children: “A Sunday as a Paleontologist”! Accompanied by guides trained in the UNESCO World Heritage, you will embark on an exciting journey to discover a 240 million year old tropical lagoon.

Program Highlights

  • Visit to the Acqua del Ghiffo paleontological excavation - A journey to discover a place where thousands of fossils have been found
  • Visit to the Carpanee educational classroom - An open-air museum immersed in the woods with fossils and reconstructions of Triassic animals
  • Become a paleontologist yourself - Dig, discover and marvel!

  • Meeting point: at the Monte San Giorgio Fossil Museum in Meride
  • Hike: approximately 45 minutes (3 km, 60 m elevation gain)
  • Equipment: sturdy shoes and clothing suitable for the weather conditions are required.
  • Bad weather: the hike will not take place in case of rain.
  • Recommended age: 6-12 years * Cost: free
