Street Food Festival Lugano

The national tour will break the 2.5 million barrier in 2024.

The ‘Original Streetfood Festival Tour’ is already entering its 9th season throughout Switzerland, after 103 festivals and an impressive 2.36 million visitors. What started in 2015 with a one-day event in Olten is now a roadshow through all language regions with 19 three-day festivals and around 900 stands. While in the beginning it was necessary to explain to the authorities what street food or street food is, today you can find food trucks on the street in many locations, as catering at events and street food dishes on the menus of starred chefs. Street food is basically synonymous with freshly prepared dishes in mobile kitchens, is sustainable and is now an integral part of Swiss gastronomic culture. Originally celebrated in Asia, South America and Africa, today more than 2.5 billion people eat mostly regional products every day, often served as finger food. In Switzerland, it has also become an important branch of industry.

With its Mediterranean flair, Lugano offers all the advantages of a cosmopolitan city and the charm of a small town at the same time. The Streetfood Festival, to be held from 6 to 8 September, will help to

At the festival, it is possible to meet the world's food cultures in a cosy market atmosphere with 45 stalls, without the need for a plane ticket or endless check-ins. The small tasting portions available everywhere are a great way to discover new dishes and embark on a culinary journey. With free admission and a newly designed children's area, the trendy event is a fun festival for all ages.

The experience also includes several themed bars with aperitifs, cocktails, wine, beer and premium gin tastings. Coloured LED lights, a beautifully decorated area, street performers and plenty of seating make the event a real happening. As every year, the creative minds of the team will make the festival even better and incorporate innovations. New bars will also be built. The drink offer will also be adapted. Do you prefer a freshly prepared drink at the bar or a beer tasting? Variety and new taste experiences are guaranteed. Whether the sun shines or it rains, weather-protected areas are always available to ensure a cosy gathering.

In addition, the Openair boys' country will join us at the Campo Marzio for the season finale in Lugano.

The Openair experience open to the whole family will also go on an extensive Swiss tour in 2024. The Openair boys' country is one of the most successful family events. Having fun with a variety of games, saying hello to the JaMaDu, letting off steam on the bouncy castle, putting their skills to the test, doing handicrafts, clapping and singing at the top of their lungs when the artists perform on the big stage - children can take all this and many other impressions home with them as memories.

In 2024, together with our partner JCI #nofoodwaste, we are also committed to fighting food waste. Among other things, leftover food is donated to those in need. The cycle ends with the valuable cooperation with the Association of the Swiss Gas Industry, the local gas supplier and the operator of the biogas plant. Swiss biogas is produced from biogenic waste from cooking and food scraps and used frying oil. Again this year, biogenic waste will be collected at 9 tour locations and transformed into renewable energy at one of more than 46 biogas plants, which will then be fed directly into the gas network. Visitors on site will be made aware of the correct separation of organic waste, which can be transformed into Swiss biogas, at an interactive stand. In Lugano, organic waste is used on behalf of AIL (Aziende Industriali die Lugano SA) in the Biorecycle sagl biogas plant in S. Antonino. This makes the festivals even more sustainable.
