Spiritual Concerts in Santa Maria degli Angioli 2023–2024

The beginning of September marks the start of the 2023 – 2024 musical season organized by the Parish of S. Maria degli Angioli and the Diocese of Lugano, with the support of the Bernardino Luini Association. The season offers intense, high-level musical entertainment, with over one hundred musical events between the months of September 2023 and June 2024. The programme is divided into eight parts: organ Vespers, the season of Spiritual Concerts, animated by internationally renowned soloists and the professors of the Orchestra della Svizzera italiana, Two Sundays with Ekaterina Valiulina, OSI violinist and well-known soloist; Three Sundays with Vanessa Russell, a remarkably talented viola player who still offers new repertoire at the Angioli church, Three Sundays with music by Max Reger, celebrating the 150th anniversary of the birth of the Bavarian composer;  'Le Sonate del S. Rosario' the complete Rosenkranz-Sonaten by Heinrich Ignaz Franz Biber (1644 – 1704), divided between the 2023 – 24 and 2024 – 25 seasons and entrusted to the OSI violinist Hans Liviabella; Tre vespri with Lidia Basterretxea Vila, a cycle of meetings with the Basque soprano, a specialist in the romantic and late-romantic sacred repertoire; and finally, the choral marathon, which reaches its third edition. For the 2023 – 2024 season, the events will no longer be hosted only in the churches of S. Maria degli Angioli and S. Maria di Loreto as usual, but will also take place in the Churches of the Immacolata, S. Antonio and S. Carlo. For the second time, the festival will also extend beyond the boundaries of Lugano, with events scheduled in Mendrisio and Bironico.
