Rabadan - Carnival in Bellinzona

The Roman Carnival begins on Thursday with the handing over of the keys to King Rabadan; after which the celebrations begin. On Friday, the masked parade of children from Bellinzona's elementary and nursery schools takes place. On Saturday, the cheerful Guggen girls from Ticino and beyond will perform. On Sunday, Bellinzona hosts the customary "Grande Corteo Mascherato" (Great Masked Parade), featuring two thousand extras who enliven a humorous parade of music, floats, and groups, in the truest tradition of the Carnival of King Rabadan, Ticino's most famous ruler.

• All this is accompanied by many other activities, such as a competition for the best mask, a tug of war, and dozens of "tents" where you can eat, drink, and dance until the early hours of the morning.
