The eighth season of LuganoMusica hosts at the LAC the best performers in a rich programme of symphonic and chamber concerts, recitals, dedicated events, in-depth meetings with musicians and contemporary music.
This year's prestigious musical programme presents some of the new generation's youngest and most talented conductors. They will be accompanied by the orchestras that have chosen them as their guides to renew the international panorama.
The Wiener Symphoniker will open the season under Emmanuel Tjeknavorian.
Major revelations include Lahav Shani with the Rotterdam Philharmonic, Santtu-Matias Rouvali with the Philharmonia Orchestra and Klaus Mäkelä with the Orchestre de Paris.
Daniel Harding will return with the Concertgebouw Orchestra, and Iván Fischer is to conduct his Budapest Festival Orchestra. Daniele Gatti and the Orchestra Mozart will be present in Lugano for a concert during the Easter week. The Orchestre de Chambre de Lausanne and Renaud Capuçon will be guests for the first time. The programme also honours baroque music with the participation of Ensemble Claudiana, Il Giardino Armonico, Le Concert des Nations and I Barocchisti.
Maurizio Pollini, flautist Emmanuel Pahud, pianist Arkadij Volodos and the vocal sextet King's Singers count among the artists and ensembles in the chamber concert series.
LuganoMusica will also pay tribute to the 100th anniversary of Hungarian composer György Ligeti's birth with two events. The Quartetto Diotima will perform the String Quartets No. 1 and No. 2, whereas Gabriele Carcano will play a selection of Ligeti's Études for piano.
