Lugano Belle Époque. The Unseen Perspective of H. A. Insinger

The Culture Division of the City of Lugano presents a new exhibition at Palazzo Civico: a photographic show dedicated to images taken by the Dutch tourist Hermann Albrecht Insinger between 1892 and 1901.

The photographs offer a unique perspective on Lugano during the Belle Époque, departing from the tourist imagery promoted at the time by local photographers and companies north of the Alps.

Thanks to the collaboration with the Stadtarchiv of Bielefeld (Germany), which preserves the original negatives, the exhibition features a selection of around eighty photographs, among the most significant and representative of the more than three hundred images taken in Lugano and its surroundings.
