2° Edition Gotthardbahntag - Bellinzona meets Erstfeld

In 2007 the Gotthard Railway celebrated its 125th anniversary and in 2016 the Gotthard Base Tunnel was opened. To ensure that the mountain route is not forgotten, the Erstfeld Tourist Commission has set itself the goal of commemorating this route with a special event, which this year will be held in Bellinzona on 10 June 2023.
Bellinzona is hosting the second Gotthardbahntag, an event in cooperation with Erstfeld on the theme of mobility and cultural exchange, which this year will welcome the "Lucerne Museum of Transport", which will be on the Piazza del Sole for the occasion with lots of fun family activities. In addition, there will be music, a market and medieval entertainment at Castelgrande in cooperation with various Sword in the Fortress groups.

PIAZZA DEL SOLE
Animation, stalls and music on the entire Piazza del Sole in cooperation with the town of Erstfeld and local partners.
Special Guest: THELUCERN MUSEUM OF TRANSPORT on the square with family activities, vintage vehicles.
MEDIEVAL ANIMATION IN CASTEL GRANDE
Medieval animation in cooperation with "La Spada nella Rocca" in the outdoor courtyard of Castel Grande. Free admission.
CITY MARKET
Wide choice of local products and handicrafts in the old town centre of Bellinzona.
TRENINO ARTÙ
Runs free of charge between the old town centre and the castles of Montebello and Sasso Corbaro.

GASTRONOMY

2 p.m. - Archaeology workshop - Stories on the rock
With Emanuela Guerra Ferretti, cultural mediator of the Ticino Archaeological Association (AAT). Activities for children and young people to discover rock engravings, among the most significant testimonies left by the first men who inhabited the Alpine arc. An opportunity to delve into an important chapter of local archaeology and to try out the techniques of engraved rock relief.

Enjoy the outward journey on the Gotthard line in the comfortable Gotthard train to Bellinzona. A full programme awaits you there; the traditional market takes place in the Old Town and a guided tour starts at 11 a.m. from the Info Point at the Tourist Office; reservations are recommended. The return journey from Bellinzona will be the highlight of the day with the Gotthard Experience Train; travel as in the old days in historic carriages ("Ce 6/8 II 'Crocodile'") from Lavorgo to Erstfeld and experience the nostalgic journey home.
