Francis and the Perfect Robe. The Costumes of “Brother Sun, Sister Moon”

The exhibition — organized to mark the 800th anniversary of his death — explores the deep and troubled relationship between Francis of Assisi (1181/2–1226) and clothing.

Although connected to the world of luxury textiles through his family business, Francis distanced himself from it with dramatic gestures, such as stripping completely naked in public to return all his clothes to his father; yet at the same time, he displayed an attention to and sensitivity toward clothing that only an expert could possess.

An original and intriguing journey that explores the costumes from Franco Zeffirelli’s masterpiece "Brother Sun, Sister Moon", alongside biographical accounts and artistic representations.
