On the occasion of the European Heritage Days, historic sites open their doors to you. Come and discover the heritage of your region and let yourself be surprised!
With this initiative, the Canton of Ticino joins the European Heritage Days, a joint project of the Council of Europe and the European Union involving 50 countries.
Here are the activities taking place in the Bellinzona and Valli region:
The Piottino Gorge: a crucial point for the transport of goods for centuries - Rodi-Fiesso
Starting from the Dazio Grande, the old Urana customs house opened in 1561, you will ascend to the ruins of the Dazio Vecchio. Following the ancient mule track, you will descend to the Piottino Gorge, where you will walk along the old Urana road. During the journey, historian Dr. Fabrizio Viscontini will explain the evolution of communication routes, from the opening of the Gotthard Pass to the present day.

We Are No Longer in the Middle Ages - Bellinzona
Guided tour in Italian with the exhibition's co-curator, archaeologist Eva Carlevaro, at Sasso Corbaro. "We Are No Longer in the Middle Ages" explores centuries of transformations of Bellinzona's fortifications, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2000.

The Via Francisca from Lottigna to Serravalle - Lottigna
The day begins with a brief guided tour of the temporary exhibition "The (Two) Castles of Serravalle" set up in the Palazzo dei Landfogti in Lottigna. Then, you will walk to the Serravalle Castle site, following a stretch of the Via Francisca del Lucomagno and visiting some monuments along the way.

The Industrial Area of Giornico-Bodio
This area bears witness to the strong link between the territory, communication routes, and electricity, and hosts important examples of industrial architecture in our Canton. The visit will be led by art historian Valeria Frei and historian and economist Franco Romerio.

From Casa Stanga to San Pellegrino: Guided Tour of the Monuments of Giornico - Giornico
The guided tour with historian Dr. Fabrizio Viscontini will focus on the main historical monuments of Giornico. Starting from the 16th-century Casa Stanga, home to the Leventina Museum, you will visit two of the village’s most famous churches: San Nicola, considered one of the finest examples of Romanesque style in Ticino, and San Pellegrino in the Altirolo district, with its significant late 16th-century fresco cycles. You will discover Piazza Fontana, overlooked by the "Atto" tower, before returning to Casa Stanga.
