After "Romeo e Giulietta" presented at the LAC during the 2018/2019 season, the celebrated French choreographer of Albanian descent Angelin Preljocaj returns to narrative ballet with Tchaikovsky’s masterpiece and accompanies it with more contemporary arrangements.
With his twenty-seven dancers and a set design based on video projections, Preljocaj has crafted a performance in which the narrative structure of the ballet by Marius Petipa is revived in a stimulating and unusual production.
The story takes place in the world of contemporary industry and finance while never losing its atmosphere of mystery. Alternating between reality and phantasy, Preljocaj adds a contemporary perspective and focuses on the motivations behind each character, while also casting a glance towards the themes of ecology and the future.
Preljocaj returns to the form of ballet where narrative, dance and music meld perfectly with each other while reworking Tchaikovsky’s masterpiece with forays into electronic music composed by the collective 79D.
Brilliantly mixing different styles of dance, Angelin Preljocaj ventures into the romantic mists of the lake where the love story began between prince Siegfried and the swan Odette/Odile.
