BUKÈL is a non-profit association based in Dongio, active in the northern Philippines. Among its aims and objectives, it promotes the improvement of living conditions for the population of Kalinga province, with a particular focus on the most vulnerable and marginalised social groups, through skills enhancement and self-esteem building. Current main programmes are focused on supporting a group of youths from a discriminated tribal community, developing skills in children and young people with disabilities, and training teachers in remote community schools for the integration of students with special needs. BUKÈL’s activities in Kalinga are led and monitored by the couple Laura and Arnel. Laura Rodesino is an occupational therapist from the Blenio Valley, who moved to the Philippines in 2015. Arnel Banasan is originally from Kalinga. He is a musician and composer popular in the northern Philippines, a promoter and enhancer of his tribal identity, especially through his music which narrates themes of local daily life in his community's dialect.
