Advent Exhibition

For the fifth consecutive year, the m.a.x. museo is offering the Advent Exhibition, an appointment of the Christmas season that is very popular with visitors, thanks to which it is possible to admire a work on the theme that is not normally visible to the public.

The masterpiece chosen for these festivities is Madonna with Child and Angels, by Filippino Lippi (Prato 1457 - Florence 1504) and workshop with Vincenzo Frediani, tempera grassa on panel, dating from around 1480-1483.

The valuable work is now on display in the atrium of the m.a.x. museum and can be admired free of charge until 6 January 2025.

The depiction of the Madonna and Child is an important iconographic theme in the history of art of Christian culture, which enjoyed particular fortune during the Italian Renaissance. Many artists interpreted this scene by increasingly seeking a human and involving relationship between the mother and child, while always emphasising the sacred symbols and metaphors referring to the life and sacrifice of Christ.
