The Hockey Club Lugano is one of Swiss hockey's most winning and well-established sports clubs.
After promotion to the highest national league in 1982, it won the Swiss championship title seven times (1986, 1987, 1988, 1990, 1999, 2003, 2006), played six more playoffs finals (1989, 2000, 2001, 2004, 2016, 2018), participated several times in the final stages of international competitions (European Cup, Top Four Final, Super Six) and played three finals of the prestigious Spengler Cup in Davos (1991, 2015, 2016).
Officially founded on 11 February 1941, after the first years of skating on the natural lake of Muzzano, the Hockey Club Lugano celebrated its 80th birthday in 2021.
Apart from the sporting results of its first team, which evidently acts as a driving force, the HCL constitutes a significant reality in the region south of Monte Ceneri, deeply rooted in the fabric of Lugano, Ticino and Switzerland. The HCL is now the size of a medium-sized company with over 100 employees, 240 external collaborators, 130 volunteers and a turnover of around 22.5 million per year.
In this sense the social function carried out in particular by the Youthful Section of the HCL, which counts more than 400 members in the different age categories, is recognised and appreciated.
The enthusiasm and the popular passion that the HCL colours can arouse are in front of everybody's eyes. During the season, the Hockey Club Lugano registers an average of spectators attending the games that, playoffs included, approaches six thousand people. The season subscribers at the Cornèr Arena exceed four thousands.
