Description of the itinerary:
The itinerary starts in the centre of Locarno and leads in direction Muralto/Minusio along the lake shore, where you can admire different types of cactus besides exotic trees and flowers.
Cycling along the shore of the lake, on the “Via alla Riva” cycling track, you pass inviting natural beaches which, during the hottest months, are the ideal places to stop and have a refreshing swim.
After leaving the shore of the lake, passing by the municipal port of Minusio, you will find the National Sports Centre of Tenero. Carrying on the cycling track No. 3 you will enter the Magadino plain. Near by you will find one of the accesses to the park “Bolle di Magadino”, a nature and wildlife reserve with ecosystems unique in Switzerland.
Cycling further, track No. 3. will lead you through the heart of the Magadino plain with its agricultural fields mixed with vineyards, farms and farmhouses with possibilities of tasting and purchasing some traditional products.
Once at the bridge of Gudo, the cycling track continues in direction of Bellinzona.
To return to Locarno there are many different routes. For safety reasons, we recommend you to choose the same way back.
