Grotto America

Grotto America, a beautiful, ancient grotto immersed in greenery, next to the Maggia River. It is part of the village of Ponte Brolla, which dates from the mid-19th century, and is surrounded by ancient grottoes. The village was once one of the region's main meeting points, where travellers waited for convoys heading for the port of Genoa, hoping to be able to sail for North America. The village has kept the same name until the present day. Original paintings can still be seen on the house created by a family of emigrants from Ticino who made their fortune overseas. When they returned from their journey, they bought the Grotto and named it America in memory of their destination.

In addition to serving traditional and creative dishes made with local products, the Grotto America offers "The Artists' Corner" summer programme, which provides an opportunity for artists from Ticino, elsewhere in Switzerland and around the world to perform on stage, while also offering space for various types of exhibitions.

The Grotto has a large outside terrace with a beautiful view of the Maggia River, and a welcoming lounge with a fireplace, suitable for all kinds of dinners, meetings, birthdays and weddings. We also have an ancient cellar, where wines, local salamis and cheeses from the Alps are stored and kept cool.
