The «Sentiero Smeraldo» (Emerald Trail) is a project of the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) realised in co-operation with the office of tourism as part of Switzerland's «Emerald Network». Its goal is to publicise and raise awareness about the Emerald species and habitats of Mendrisiotto - one of three places in the canton of Ticino richest in these rare and endangered species and habitats.
From Bellavista there are two different possibilities for planning the rest of your itinerary, depending on which end of the «Sentiero Smeraldo» (Emerald Trail) you head for. If you want to go directly back to Mendrisio, then choose route 8b. If you still want to see Arogno, Caprino and Lugano (we recommend you plan an extra day for this), then this is the route you will want to take.
From Bellavista, head down to Roncaccio via Alpe di Melano through a wonderful natural alp setting. A slight incline leads you to a small saddle in the landscape before you reach Bogo. From here, the walk is practically all downhill. In Lembro you can decide to divert to a route on unpaved tracks (option C). You are sure to enjoy visiting Arogno.

Montagnepulite: This project was born to promote an effective management and sustainable use of mountain huts in Ticino, and in particular the litter management. The responsible management of litter in the mountains is a matter of common sense. We can all contribute:
