Rovio: San Vigilio

The village of Rovio can be reached by bus (AutoPostale) from Melano and Maroggia. Rovio is included in the Federal Inventory of Swiss Heritage Sites of national importance (ISOS).

Wandering along the narrow streets in this village halfway up Monte Generoso, we come across the charming Piazza Fontana at the entrance to the village, the parish church of Santi Vitale e Agata and the church of Santa Maria Assunta (17th century).
Worth noting are the noble houses in the centre, several fountains made out of ancient Roman sarcophagi and the beautiful square in front of the Town Hall.
The nearby village of Arogno is also well worth visiting.
