This apartment, located in a mid-19th-century building in the historic centre of Quinto, retains its original style with exposed beams, wood flooring and even the occasional creaking sound to punctuate your stay! With two bright bedrooms, a spacious hallway and a welcoming kitchen–living space, it’s the perfect bolthole to head to after a day’s hiking in the surrounding peaks of the Alta Leventina Valley, including the Poncione del Tremorgio and the Pizzo Pécian.
In the evening, you can sit beneath our plum tree and watch the sun setting behind the Gotthard Massif.

Quinto is in the Alta Leventina Valley in the canton of Ticino, just a short drive from motorway junction 42. There are direct trains to Basel and Zurich in the north and Locarno in the south departing every hour from the nearby station of Ambrì-Piotta (2km away). Those wanting to venture off the beaten track can travel to the area via public transport and then rent a car in Airolo through the Mobility scheme.

The Alta Leventina Valley remains relatively undiscovered by tourists, who tend to visit the more southerly valleys of the Locarno area. There are many excursions on the doorstep of the apartment, while the Audan sports centre is a ten-minute walk away – ideal for families, with game fishing, a climbing wall and two tennis courts on offer. The Ritom funicular is the steepest in Europe and transports increasing numbers of daytrippers to the renowned region of the Piora. On the other side of the valley, the Tremorgio cable car offers a speedy 800m ascent to the mountain lake of the same name, set amidst idyllic Alpine scenery.

Unpretentious, traditional fare is on offer at the historic Osteria degli Amici, which attracts tourists and locals alike. There is a terrace to the rear of the building, which makes an ideal spot for sipping a cappuccino over a good book. The region has many restaurants, which also offer meals to take away. Everyday essentials can be found at the local store, in Ambrì, while Piccoli in Piotta is a butcher’s shop selling local specialties. There are supermarkets such as Coop, Denner and Migros in Airolo (7km away) and Faido (10km away).
