Arosio: the chestnut Path

Take in chestnut groves, birch woods, streams and meadows, all immersed in a natural amphitheatre provided by the Gradiccioli mountain range. The Alto Malcantone region, with its undulating, hilly environment, features a mosaic of different landscapes, where the traditional villages of Arosio, Mugena, Vezio and Fescoggia, with their unique architecture, blend harmoniously with the woodland and open spaces. Various viewpoints provide you with a panoramic view of the entire region.

Arosio, the highest village in the Malcantone, situated at 859 meters, is a little more than 35 minutes from the center of Lugano. It has a magnificent panorama of the Vedeggio, Capriasca and Colla valleys, as well as the city of Lugano and the gulf of Agno.

From grotto Sgambada go first to the chestnut forest of Induno and then to the church of Saint Michael in Arosio. The excursion continues in the direction of Mugena and offers a magnificent and exceptional panoramic point of the whole Malcantone region. After exploring Mugena follow the path towards "Busgnone" where you cross the Magliasina River near a natural pool. The itinerary follows along magnificent naturally tree lined paths, along the Firinescio Valley and then above Vezio arrives at the village of Fescoggia.

The return route begins from there, first descending toward Caroggio and then climbing towards Mugena and finally Arosio. The post bus returns from Arosio, following the same route as in the morning, to the original point of departure.
