The wind orchestra of Italian Switzerland is playing again.
The brass and percussion instruments of the ofsi will perform an extraordinary concert entitled Motown metal.
Daniele Giovannini, a young and promising conductor from Ticino, has selected a repertoire that reflects the principles of the orchestra, these are in fact original pieces written by contemporary composers.
The concert is named after Michael Daugherty's first Motown metal piece. In fact, it reflects the formation composed of metal instruments. It is a tribute to Detroit, the metropolis of the American automobile industry, also known as Motor City.
We will hear sound effects reminiscent of engines, supported by music inspired by the Motown style (a name composed of motor and town style that refers to the Motown Records record company). The staff will vary with each track and will include trumpets, horns, trombones, tubas, timpani and several other percussion instruments and even include a white voice in the prelude to Kerry Turner's Ghost Riders. The soloist will be prepared by Locarno choir master Calicantus Mario Fontana. Also on the programme are pieces by Samuel Barber, Jan Koetsier and Jim Parker, for a programme that promises fireworks.
