The exhibition presents la Rinascente’s corporate graphic design to mark the centenary of its foundation.
Already in the early decades of the twentieth century, la Rinascente launched an innovative line of communication, a real experimental test-bed for the history of graphic art and design, bringing together artists, graphic designers and illustrators who transposed and interpreted the refined elegance and popular products presented on the department store’s large market.
From the posters in Art Nouveau style designed by Marcello Dudovich to the monogram ‘l R’ created by the Swiss graphic designer Max Huber, the history of La Rinascente presents a century of unfailingly surprising, cutting-edge corporate communication. It also tells of the designs by the many collaborators, now regarded as true masters of graphic art, advertising and design.
An endless wealth of rich and colorful images designed by Albe Steiner, Lora Lamm, Giancarlo Iliprandi, Amneris Latis Liesering, Brunetta Mateldi, Pegge Hopper, Roberto Maderna, Roberto Sambonet, Massimo Vignelli, Bob and Ornella Noorda, Aoi Huber Kono, Heinz Waibl, Salvatore Gregorietti, Adriana Botti Monti, Giovanna Graf, Bruno Munari, Franco and Jeanne Grignani, Italo Lupi, Carlo Pagani, Giancarlo Ortelli, Richard Sapper, Mario Bellini and many others, without forgetting photographers such as Aldo and Mariarosa Ballo, Ugo Mulas, Serge Libiszewski, William Klein and Oliviero Toscani.
Simultaneously, an exhibition about the centenary of la Rinascente will run at Palazzo Reale, in Milan.
