The Gotthard mountain route and its many attractions are a constant source of amazement. The region of St. Gotthard is most easily accessible from the Swiss Alps, but to date, due to the frequent traffic alerts (congestion in Airolo and Göschenen), the area is perceived in a negative light: traffic jams are actually less frequent along the Gotthard route than in the metropolitan areas in the South and in the North.

The bilingual exhibition in Italian and German aims at promoting the historic Gotthard railway line with a look at the past and the future, especially in relation to the development of towns touched by the Gotthard railway line. The Gotthard route offers a wide range of attractions, such as the town of Giornico with its churches and museums, the unique landscape at the top of the Pass along the historic Tremola road, and the passage through the Gotthard Road Tunnel leading into Göschenen. The exhibition also introduces new attractions, such as the World of St. Gotthard Railway Experiences in Biasca and the Schöllenen area experience, which at the moment is still in the planning stage.

The objective is to involve museums, associations, authorities and other personalities from Valle Leventina, to develop debate and discussion on this issue. Perhaps the St. Gotthard mountain route will become once again one of the main attractions of Swiss tourism, as it was in the 19th century.
