Enzo Cucchi. Fifty Years of Art Graphics
Opening: 10 June 2017, 6.00 pm
Spazio Officina, 11 June – 23 July 2017
The exhibition is devoted to Enzo Cucchi (Morro d’Alba, 1949), the most visionary of the artists of the Transavanguardia movement, and for the first time is wholly focused on his graphic works and artist’s books.
The exhibition is enriched with a cycle of 21 new and unpublished engravings made specially for the show at the Spazio Officina by Cucchi with Studio Lithos in Como, 6 new sculptures never before presented to the public, 180 art books, etchings, lithographs and silkscreen prints in extraordinary formats, and sketches.
Enzo Cucchi has always shown particular concern and passion for graphic design and the catalogue-book as object.
Here presented for the first time are the basic phases of Cucchi’s graphic research, from his early period in the seventies down to the present, revealing his complex creative journey, rich in reflections, research, documents, and surprising solutions adopted by the artist, such as the very large and the very small. The formats follow inscrutable rules, faithful to the images they contain and often combining different printing methods. His characters and writing by hand alternate with the images of heroes of the countryside of the Marche, animals, hills, and houses hidden amid the folds of his leporellos, in the corners of the pages and cover flaps, and they are filled with echoes from his land of origin sweetened by his experience of an international artistic caliber.
After Chiasso, the exhibition, in “integrated project” mode, will be presented in Ancona at the prestigious Mole Vanvitelliana in the Sala Vanvitelli (15 October – 15 December 2017).
