Blue Highways

The images exhibited here were taken during seven trips across the United States. In addition to visiting some iconic locations, I wanted to trace itineraries that allowed me to travel through unknown and unusual areas: I have always been fascinated by the ‘simple’ contemplation of the vastness of these territories and its details, scenarios in which human beings are almost absent. Some of the routes, with the corresponding images presented here, have also been outlined with the intention of visiting places that have inspired American cinema and photography.
Hence the idea of calling this exhibition ‘Blue Highways’, the title of William Least Heat Moon's autobiographical book, because blue was the colour, on old American maps, of the roads he followed, the secondary ones made obsolete by the construction of interstates.
My travels have not followed the writer's routes, but the spirit of seeking out more authentic locations where the road is often the protagonist may be similar.

  • The exhibition will be presented by Fabio Martini
