Young Billy loves dancing and in the bigoted England of Margaret Thatcher, the England of closing mines and striking workers, sadly he has to deal with a father and brother who want him to become a boxer. Love, passion and the urge to succeed triumph in the end just as the friendship between the teenagers overcomes any discrimination against sexual orientation.
Billy Elliot the Musical premiered in London’s West End in 2005 and was nominated for nine Laurence Olivier Awards, winning four. The incredible success led to the musical’s performance in many other countries of the world including Australia and Broadway where it won ten Tony Awards – the equivalent of the Oscars for live theatre – and ten Drama Desk Awards.
