Vineyards and traditions of the Muggio Valley

Morbio Inferiore is located at the entrance of the Muggio Valley. Here, as typical of the Mendrisiotto’s traditions, people can see the terraced vineyards. In one of these vineyards in Morbio Inferiore we can find a “Roccolo”: a typical small house built as tower. In the past, these buildings were used by the hunters to attract and hunt the birds. In this vineyard are told the histories about the “Roccoli” and the traditional customs of the Muggio Valley. Tourists are therefore introduced to the traditions of the southern Valley of Switzerland.

In Cabbio is advisable the visit of the ethnographic Museum. A dynamic exhibition that provides a further presentation of the other peculiarities of the Roccolo, briefly introduced during the previous visit. In this village located at 667 ms/m., there is also the cellar Cavallini, that vinifies the grapes of this vineyard of Morbio Inferiore. After a visit it is possible to taste the wines. We recommend you to taste a traditional Merlot wine. It is produced from white grapes and dedicated to the Upupa, a bird that lives in the area.
