Oratory of S. Petronilla

Description

Located close to the bridge over the river Froda, the oratory of S. Petronilla is just a building of the '600, interesting for the frescoes that adorn the internal walls. They are the work of a painter of the first half of the seventeenth century, very active in the region, and depicts scenes from the life of St. Petronilla, angels and votive paintings with the names of donors, for the most part of the family Pellanda.

The oratory was restored in the years 1985-87. The excavations have revealed the ancient origin of the original building, perhaps not religious, which dates from the eleventh century, the first church of the thirteenth century.

The votive offerings that decorated the oratory are now at the parish house.

The Via Crucis that starts from the church of S. Pietro in about 20 minutes.
