Itinerary

Day 1:

Individual arrival to Bellinzona | Bellinzona - Isone

Baggage delivery in Bellinzona. Steep ascent to the Monti del Tiglio. From here you have a wonderful view of the Magadino plain and the nearby Lake Maggiore. Look again at the castles of Bellinzona before descending to Isone.

Details: approx. 4.5 hours, approx. 13 km, uphill 850 m, downhill 330 m

Day 2: Isone – Tesserete

First through the swamp at Gola di Lago and then through a sea of fern in the thin birch forest towards Bigorio. It is a scenic route through Monte Bigorio and the Franciscan Monastery of Santa Maria that lays like an eagle's nest above Tesserete.

Details: approx. 3 hours, approx. 10 km, uphill 380 m, downhill 615 m

Day 3: Tesserete - Lugano

Through the woods south of Tesserete, at the center of which is the medieval Torre di Redde, you can reach the Oratorio San Bernardo with its splendid view over Ceresio. Between old walls and modern buildings the path leads the way down to Lugano.

Day 4: Lugano - Monte San Salvatore - Morcote - Serpiano

The hike from Monte San Salvatore to Vico Morcote is a classic. On the gently sloping path, with its nice grotti and beautiful views, the forest sections alternate with the pretty villages. From Morcote by boat to Brusino and by Funivia to Serpiano.

Day 5: Serpiano - Meride - Mendrisio | departure or extra days

Monte San Giorgio, also known as the "Mountain of Fossils", is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Dinosaur fossils dating from 230-240 million years can be admired in a small museum in Meride.
