The Alpine Passes Trail is part of the Switzerland Mobile Projekt and was opened in spring of 2008 as a national long distance trail.Trail nr. 6 strings together many of the most beautiful passes in the Alps. The result is a challenging but fascinating Alpine hiking tour with 34 stages from Chur to St. Gingolph.
The itinerary in Ticino goes from the Greina Plateau, along lake Ritòm and continuous into the Bedretto valley reaching the Corn Pass into the Valais. Clearly it’s not likely that all stages will be covered at one time – but it can be hiked in sections. One major advantage of hiking the passes is the opportunity to leave or join the route in any valley between two passes.
The itinerary can be booked online at the following web site:
The stages in Ticino:
Day 1: Individual arrival in Olivone | Olivone - Acquacalda
A day in the Santa Maria Valley, which climbs from Olivone to the Passo del Lucomagno. Protected heritage of national importance with a rich flora up to the Capanna Dötra.
Details: ca. 10 km, uphill 1'035 m, downhill 175 m, approx. 4 h.
Day 2: Acquacalda - Airolo
Climb to the Passo del Sole, the rock changes from sediment to granite. The Val Piora is one of the largest and quietest plateaus in the Swiss Alps. With one of the steepest funiculars in the world which goes down to the Leventina Valley.
Details: ca. 16 km, uphill 725 m, downhill 625 m, approx. 4.5 h.
Day 3: Airolo - All'Acqua
Take the cable car up to Pesciüm. The long panoramic stage to All'Acqua reveals the southern charms of the valley: light larch forests, below the villages Ossasco, Villa, Bedretto and Ronco.

Day 4: All'Acqua - Ulrichen | Departure
The Val Corno, which stretches from Cap. Gorno Gries to Passo del Corno is scenically and geologically very interesting. Individual arrival on arrival in Ulrichen.
Details: ca. 19 km, uphill 980 m, downhill 1'250 m, approx. 6 h.
