Capanna Tamaro

Wooden construction of 1941 renovated in 1953, extended in 1988, electric lighting, toilet inside. Situated just below the peak of Pizzo Tamaro, from this hut and its immediate vicinity you can enjoy a stupendous view of the valley; to the north over Bellinzona and the upper valleys, to the south Lugano with Lake Ceresio, and to the west Lake Maggiore dominated by Locarno and its Delta.

The hut is located on the peak that joins the Trodo Valley and the Duragno Valley. It is practically on the border between Sopra and Sottoceneri, about one kilometre from Monte Tamaro, where you can enjoy one of the most beautiful views of Ticino. The hut was built from an old military building from 1914 and renovated several times; much appreciated for the service it gives to those who are about to make the Monte Tamaro-Monte Lema traverse.

It is also a point of arrival for those who climb from less frequented paths (from Magadino through Poncione della Croce and Poncione del Macello, or from Rivera Sorencino through Valle di Duragno or from Arogno, Bassa di Indemini and others), itineraries that allow you to appreciate the beauty of the mid-mountain area of Ticino.

Because of the easy access from Alpe Foppa (1 hour) this hut is particularly popular with hikers who go up for a drink or lunch. The hut is also a point of passage for the beautiful Tamaro - Lema traverse, where along a beautiful panoramic path you can reach Miglieglia.
