Accessible tourism

In Ticino, the range of fully-accessible facilities available to travellers with disabilities – hotels, restaurants, means of transport – is broader than ever.

However, the often mountainous terrain and the traditional nature of many historic town and village centres prevent the whole canton from being freely accessible. We suggest therefore that you specify your requirements in terms of accessibility, in order to help us give you appropriate information.

Local tourist offices and the FTIA (www.ftia.ch – the Ticinese Federation for the Integration of People with Disabilities) will be able to give you suggestions for accessible hotels, restaurants, museums, tours and events. Do not hesitate to get in touch.

Proposal lake Maggiore, the Brissago Islands

The Brissago Islands are the Canton Ticino's botanical park. The gardens bring together a great variety of exotic, subtropical plants, cultivated in the open air and laid out according to their geographical origins. A visit to the only islands of Ticino is a must for anyone staying in the region.

Proposal lake Lugano, the Lakeshore promenade

This is a fascinating walk that coasts the lake, winding its way up to the municipality of Paradiso. The Belvedere garden, at about half way, is a wonderful blend of nature and culture.

Lugano and his lake region

Surrounded by mountains and a splendid lake, Lugano combines all the characteristics of a high-class metropolis.

Culture and nature between Locarno and Ascona

The city of Locarno and the town of Ascona, only a few kilometres apart, both on the shore of Lake Maggiore.

Bellinzona: the city of the castles

Bellinzona, the capital of Ticino Canton, was historically viewed from the south as the entrance to the Alps.

Mendrisio: not only the beautiful old town

The city of Mendrisio today enjoys the title of "magnificent town" thanks to the presence of many historical monuments.
