Artisanship

The Artisanship is very important in Ticino. The definition of Artisanship is "who produces through the processing mostly by hand or with the aid of simple machines." In the last century the industrialization has pushed the craft to a marginal role. With the crisis of the industrial society the artisanship is rediscovering the need to retrieve patterns and modes of operation that were able to connect the culture of handcraft with the new sustainability requirements.
The craft sector in Ticino today counts about 400 artisans, mainly in the valley regions, where you can still admire the traditional working of natural materials. Gifted hands carefully and passionately manufacture objects with marble, granite, wool, wood, straw and many other materials creating items of daily use but also true works of art, where you can still see the old workings of raw materials offered by nature.

Wood

In the past, it was not difficult to find farmers, pastures and craftsmen who knew how, for necessity or pleasure, to work with wood.

Ceramic

Ceramic is on of the most antique regional activities in the story of mankind. In Ticino however it was not part of the habits in the past.

Wool

The production of wool, like that of hemp cloth, answered a need to have yarn and cloth available to make clothing and linens.

Copper
