The Monte Generoso – a mountain of generosity

Monte Generoso is the mountain in the Canton of Ticino with the best view. The top can be reached by means of a convenient little cogwheel railway, which departs from Capolago, on Lake Lugano, at 274m above sea level. The 1704m summit is reached after travelling for 40 minutes through an unspoiled landscape. From the top an enchanting panorama can be enjoyed that takes in all of the lakes in the region (Lugano, Como, Varese and Maggiore), also the city of Lugano, the Po Valley region with Milan and from the Apennines right over to the Alpine chain, from Gran Paradiso to Monte Rosa, from the Matterhorn to the Jungfrau and the Gotthard massif to the Bernina group of mountains.

On Monte Generoso, there are countless leisure opportunities for all tastes. From simple walks along the 51 km of tracks, to cave exploration, from mountain bike jaunts along a 27 km course, to paragliding, from bird-watching to astronomy.

The Restaurant Vetta Monte Generoso with a seating capacity of over 100 seats and the terrace for ca. 140 people, are the ideal places to spend moments of absolute relaxation and to enjoy a rich an traditional meal during a pleasant excursion in the nature. The environment offered by the Restaurant Vetta Monte Generoso is unique, with its breathtaking view on the Gulf of Lugano and the Alpine chain.

Every Friday takes place the ‘Mediterranean Evening’ with live music, dance and karaoke and every Saturday the ‘Ticino Evening’ with live music and visit of the astronomical observatory. Also not to forget are the ‘Season Lunch’ of every first Sunday of the month, the festive lunches and dinners.
